The problem it solves
AI video is fun, but most of the sites that make it want a monthly subscription, and each one only offers its own model. If you just want to make a handful of clips, or compare a few models on the same idea, that adds up fast.
VideoCreator puts the video models on OpenRouter in one simple screen. You bring your own OpenRouter key, you pay them for each clip at their price, and I don't add anything on top. When you stop making videos, you stop paying. That's it.
How it works
- One-time setup. Create a free OpenRouter account, add some credit (ten dollars makes a good number of clips), create an API key, and paste it in. The Test my key button is free.
- Describe the clip. Type what should happen. Describe motion, not just a scene: "the camera slowly pushes in," "leaves blow across the road."
- Pick the settings. Model, length (4 to 10 seconds), resolution (480p, 720p or 1080p) and shape (16:9, 9:16 for phones, 1:1 and more). Each model only allows certain lengths, and the pickers hide the ones it can't do.
- Press Create. A box shows what you're about to spend on. Confirm, and the clip shows a timer while it renders. You don't have to wait: type the next idea and press Create again.
- Watch and save. The list updates on its own when a clip finishes. Press Save to keep it.
What a clip costs
This is the big difference from making pictures. A video clip costs anywhere from about 20 cents to several dollars, depending on the model, the length and the resolution.
For example, in my own testing a 4-second 720p clip on Veo 3.1 Lite (the cheap default) cost $0.20 and took under a minute. A 5-second 720p clip on Wan 2.6 cost $0.50.
Two things keep you from surprises. The confirm box shows the model, settings and what the last clip on that model cost. And the exact charge shows on every clip after it finishes, with a running total for your device in Settings. A good habit: try an idea on the cheap model first, then re-run it on a bigger one once it works.
Start from a picture
Tap the picture button and hand it a photo. The clip starts as that picture, and your text says what happens next. Want your dog to look up at the camera? Your product to slowly spin? That's what this is for.
Not every model accepts a picture. The ones that don't will say so, and the app tells you right under the pickers.
Your clips and closing the app
Close the tab while a clip is rendering and nothing is lost. The job is saved the moment OpenRouter accepts it, and it picks up where it left off when you come back.
Clips are kept in your browser for convenience, but phones clear that space when storage runs low. Press Save on anything you want to keep. On a phone that opens the share sheet so you can put it in your photo library. On a computer it downloads an MP4.
Why I ask for your email
The sign-up unlocks the app in this browser. You only do it once per browser.
Your prompts, pictures and clips don't go through me. VideoCreator talks straight from your browser to OpenRouter. Your key is stored only in your browser and is only ever sent to OpenRouter. Your clips are stored in your browser too.
I might send you a note now and then about other free tools I build. I will never sell or give your email to anyone else.
Questions people ask
Is it really free?
The app is free. Making video is not: OpenRouter charges your key for each clip, at their price, with no markup from me. There's no subscription.
Do I need an OpenRouter account?
Yes. It's free to create. You add credit, make a key, and paste it into VideoCreator once per device.
Do the clips have sound?
It depends on the model. The default, Veo 3.1 Lite, adds sound on its own.
How long can a clip be?
Between 4 and 10 seconds, at 480p, 720p or 1080p. Each model only allows certain lengths and sizes, and the app hides the ones a model can't do.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and you can add it to your home screen like an app.
What if I close the app while a clip is rendering?
Nothing is lost. When you come back, it picks up the job and finishes it.
